Enjoying Some Fun & Sun in Jacksonville, Florida

I recently spent a weekend in Jacksonville, Florida and I must say the city did not disappoint. When I think of sunshine and fun, the state of Florida instantly comes to mind. I booked a hotel and got a great deal using USAA Perks. I must say I’ve used this service for a few things like hotels, rental cars, and attractions and I love the military discounts and savings.

Jacksonville Toasted

Anytime I’m in a new city, I love trying new foods, so I started the day with brunch at a trendy spot called The Toasted Yolk Cafe. My meal consisted of eggs, hashbrown casserole, pork chops, and a biscuit. It was cooked to perfection.

I was able to take a trip to NAS Jacksonville and I found the base to be very nice. I even took a trip to the Commissary and Exchange. It’s often said that Navy Exchange’s are the best out of all the branches and the NEX there was very impressive.

Jacksonville Beach

No trip to Florida is complete without a stop at the beach. One of the reasons I love the beach so much is that you can spend hours there and it doesn't cost any money. Another great attraction is the Jacksonville Zoo and Botanical Gardens. This is a great way to spend a few hours or afternoon if you are a lover of animals or plants. Plus, you can score military discounts for admission.

While the most popular cuisine down by the water is usually seafood. I ended my day with some fun and games since my hotel was conveniently located near Dave & Busters. I enjoyed a great dinner and got a chance to let my hair down. There’s nothing better than forgetting about work and responsibilities for a bit and acting like a kid again. Overall, I really enjoyed my trip to Jacksonville.

I’m already thinking about my next trip. While I’m not really a sports fan, I think I want to check out a Jacksonville Jaguars game especially since USAA Perks offers discounted tickets. What’s your favorite thing to do when visiting a new city?
