Welcome back everyone! This month we are going to feature another great debut author and military spouse, Rosamaria Mancini! Rosamaria shares her unique story of her move from the world she knows in New York to her life abroad with her military husband! I know we can all relate to this story. She sought connection in podcasts. I am totally guilty of this, but catch me with an audiobook instead. So, gather around and get ready to add another great book to your TBR!

What branch of the military are you affiliated with?

  • My husband was a member of the Italian Air Force.

How long have you been a military spouse?

  • I was a military spouse for about 10 years before he retired and now works as NATO civilian.

What is your favorite part about being in a military family?

  • I know that my husband was proud of his service and seeing him in his element made me happy as well.

What would you say is your biggest challenge being in a military family?

  • The moving abroad was difficult as it required me to pause my career and pivot into something else based on the opportunities available.

What is one piece of advice you would like to share with our current military families?

  • Communicate. That’s the key to navigating the change and understanding how all the family members feel.

How or why did you decide to become an author?

  • I was a journalist working for various new organizations in New York (where I am from) and writing has always been something I enjoyed. And then, I decided to work on a creative writing project for my PhD and my memoir SOS Podcasts was the result of my studies.

What book has been your favorite that you have written so far?

  • SOS Podcast is my first book and so my favorite at this point.

Do you have more books planned for the future?

  • Yes, I just started working on another piece of non-fiction.

What author inspires you?

  • I love non-fiction and learning from other people’s stories. I very much enjoyed reading The Tell by Amy Griffin and Strangers by Belle Burden. I admire their resilience and their strength in telling such personal stories.

What’s a random fact about you we should know?

  • I worked for the Vatican in one of their communications office and was able to travel with Pope Benedict XVI.
