We never want you ever to feel like you are alone. My Military Lifestyle prides itself on caring for every Active Duty, Veteran, Retiree, Spouse, Dependent, and every person they touch. That is why we are here to give a voice to everyone who feels like they may not have one and share how we all can support one another during National Suicide Prevention Month, as well as every single day.

Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death in the United States...on average, there are over 130 suicides per day. So, what can we do to change this? How can you start helping those around you, or even yourself, when it seems like there is no hope?
First, let’s focus attention on the issue. Then, reduce the stigma and raise awareness among organizations, governments, and the public by conveying that suicides are preventable.
How, do we do that, you may ask? Listen. That is what you need to do every day. Not just with your ears but your heart and whole body. Talk to them and listen if you see someone struggling. It may be the only thing they need. Compassion and empathy can go a long way.
You can also find so many organizations that are having events to raise awareness. Volunteering at these events and organizations can make a big difference.
Did you know September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day? So, if you or someone you know is struggling, help is available 24/7. Call or Text the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at ‘988’ to access free and confidential support for people in distress, prevention and crisis resources for you or your loved ones, and best practices for professionals in the United States.
Here's something a lot of people in our community don't know: when you call 988, press 1. That single step connects you to the Veterans/Military Crisis Line, where responders are trained in crisis intervention and military culture. They understand deployments. They understand PCS season. They understand what it means to carry something you can't bring home. You can also text 838255 or chat online. It's free, it's confidential, and it's available whether or not you're enrolled in VA benefits or health care.
However, support isn't only for the hardest moments. If you're just tired, stretched thin, or not quite feeling like yourself, there is help for that, too.
Military OneSource offers free, confidential, non-medical counseling 24/7 at 800-342-9647 or through secure chat. You can meet in person near you, by phone, or by video, up to 12 sessions per issue, at no cost. It's available to active duty, National Guard and Reserve regardless of activation status, Coast Guardsmen, and immediate family members...and it will not affect your career or your spouse's.
Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLC) are often right where you already are: your installation, your child's school, your family center, offering confidential, no-cost counseling with no records kept.
Vet Centers provide community-based counseling for combat veterans and their families, including readjustment and grief support. Call 1-877-WAR-VETS (1-877-927-8387).
Remember what we said about listening? If someone you love is pulling away, sleeping poorly, giving away things that matter to them, or saying they feel like a burden, you don't need perfect words. Ask them directly. Sit with the answer. Stay close. Checking in on someone has never made things worse, and it has changed everything for more people than we'll ever know.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please call 911.
