Come spend a Saturday morning in the life of my pit bull, Zero.

Saturdays hit different in our house. There is no rushing, just the luxury of sleeping in, which, if you ask Zero, is the absolute best part of the week. He’s not exactly a “bounce out of bed with sunshine energy” kind of dog. More like a slow blink, dramatic sigh, and a look that clearly says, “We really doing this right now?” He’s a little grumpy in the mornings… but he’s consistent about it, so we respect the routine.
That said, there are two guaranteed ways to flip his mood almost instantly: breakfast and a beach day.
The second he hears movement in the kitchen, his entire personality shifts. Suddenly he’s very interested in participating in life again. Tail starts going, he follows me like I might forget that he exists (impossible), and he parks himself exactly where I might drop something. Breakfast is not just a meal for him, it is an event, a sacred ritual. A “don’t talk to me until this bowl is filled” situation.
We’ve been really intentional lately about what goes into his bowl. Zero’s stomach can be a little sensitive, and he’s also had his fair share of skin and allergy flare-ups in the past. So, finding food that actually agrees with him has been a whole journey. We finally landed on something that works for him, gentle on his stomach, supportive for his skin, and still something he genuinely looks forward to eating every single morning: Purina One!
That combination has been a game changer for us.

I love being able to watch him finish a meal without hesitation and then immediately go into “okay, what’s next?” mode instead of dealing with discomfort later. When your dog feels good, everything else feels easier too, walks, beach days, even just hanging out at home.
After breakfast, we headed out for one of our favorite weekend rituals: a commissary run to restock his food stash. I like to keep a little “dog food vault” at home so we’re never scrambling. It’s one of those small things that makes life feel more organized than it probably is.
Zero, of course, came along for the ride like he’s supervising the entire operation. He takes his job seriously, sniffing everything, observing everyone, and occasionally giving judgmental side-eyes to carts that move too fast in the parking lots.
Back home, everything gets put away, and he immediately checks to make sure the system is still intact. Then it’s officially time to shift into weekend mode.
For us, focusing on health and wellness isn’t just a trend, it’s a priority. Especially when it comes to Zero. He’s not just “our dog,” he’s part of our daily rhythm, our routines, and our whole lifestyle. Finding a food that supports his health and that he actually loves makes a huge difference in how we move through our days together.
Then, comes the best part: the beach.
After breakfast is handled, the food is stocked, and the morning grumpiness has fully faded, Zero transforms into his happiest version of himself. Wind in his face, sand under his paws, pure freedom energy. Like he’s been waiting all week just for that moment. Saturday mornings with him are simple, but they’re everything. Sleep in. Eat well. Stock up. Head out. Repeat.
Zero would absolutely agree, that’s exactly how weekends should be.
