Warmer weather also means longer days. More daylight is great for everyone. There’s more time to go to the local pool, play 9 or 18 holes, make a mud run, or whatever is your idea of fun or relaxation. If nothing else, you can simply sit outside and enjoy the sunlight on your face. I prefer to do so with a cold beer, but that’s just me.

Longer days are also much better for going to theme parks. Extra daylight hours mean that you no longer have to get there with the rising sun to make the trip worth the price of the ticket, or you can see and do more before the little one crashes along with the setting sun.
That reminds me, always check with your installation MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) or ITT (Information, Tickets, and Travel Office) office before purchasing tickets to anything. Doing so knocked twenty-five percent off the price of my family’s last trip to Disneyland.
Closer to home, there are always community events. One of the best (for me anyway), are Movies in the Park. You get a funny movie that you can enjoy with everyone, and there are often a number of food trucks for snacks and more. If you want to bring your own, a chiller bag full of food and a cooler full of soda and water is a great way to watch a film and enjoy a sunset at the same time.
Here’s a funny, personal experience from one of those events from many years ago. Near the end of the Summer, I had forgotten to pick up a 12-pack of soda on the way home. Since we were already running late, I grabbed a bag of leftover fruit punch, lemonade, etc. drink mixes from the MREs consumed during FTXs (Field Training Exercises), deployments, and so on.
Not the best choices, but they beat paying a six-pack price for a single soda. Once I pulled out the gallon-size Ziploc bag of mixes, the civilian families around us had to try them! In about twenty minutes, the bag was nearly empty and my family has a case of Coke, Pepsi, Country Time Lemonade, and Fanta Orange to choose from.
Of course, these are just a few events to choose from. That’s the great thing about longer days, your list of options is only as long as the number your imagination can come up with.
