Simple Ways to Practice Self-Care

It is important to care for others, but sometimes we can get burnt out! We tend to forget to take a moment for ourselves, as we are the ones who are always taking care of others. However, one thing we can do is to stop and take a few moments to focus on ourselves and remember that we also need to be cared for and loved, even if it is by ourselves. Don’t forget how important your mental health is for you to thrive!

A few ideas:

  • Read a Book – This is a great way to escape. Curl up and snuggle in with a good book!
  • Pick Up a New Hobby – Maybe you already have a favorite hobby that you haven’t visited in a while…pick it back up! Don’t have a hobby, then find a new one!
  • Work on a Puzzle – There is something so satisfying about completing a puzzle! Find a place where you can set one up for a few days (or weeks, depending on the size), and take some time to work on it. It helps slow you down and really focus!
  • Simply Unplug – Put your technology away for a while! It is amazing how that can take away a level of stress!
  • Write it Out/Journal – Sometimes journaling is all you need to do. Find a good journal and start writing in it when you need time to yourself. You could start journaling on the daily, either in the morning as soon as you wake up or every night before you go to bed.
  • Sleep – Go to bed early, or take a nap. Either way try to get a full 8 hours of sleep.
  • Buy Yourself Flowers – Sounds weird, I know. But it can brighten your day! Don’t like flowers? Then, buy some eucalyptus and hang it in your shower.
  • Wine Down – Grab a glass of your favorite white or red and just enjoy the flavors and the peace!
  • Drink Water – Hydration is so important to keep your body healthy. It helps flush toxins out and just makes you feel better when you are properly hydrated!
  • Phone A Friend – Call your mom. Call your significant other. Call your bestie. I know when I talk to any of those people, I am able to get out anything I need to release! When you can talk through/about situations, there is a level of stress relief many times. Less stress is definitely a great way to take care of yourself!
