When was the last time you went for a walk and really focused on the sights, sounds and smells around you? I recently did just that and I was pleasantly surprised. What started off as a walk after dinner turned into a wonderful experience. I’ll admit my scenery was very unique as I chose a local lake in my town.

This isn't just any lake; it's actually called Swan Lake Iris Gardens. Yes, they actually have Swans there and the cool thing is that I came across a flock of black swans during my walk.

I made it a point to take in the sounds of the water, the sights of all the wildlife and the cool breeze in the air. I even stopped and touched a few of the plants. One thing I absolutely love about being in the south is the smell of some of the flowers.
Here are some reasons I highly recommend you take a nature walk if you haven't done so in a while:
- Exercise: Walking is a great form of exercise that isn't too strenuous. You can walk at your own pace for as long as you like.
- Photo Ops: Take your photography skills to the next level by taking some amazing photos.
- Stress Relief: Walking can create a sense of calm. Catching the sunrise or sunset is a positive start or ending to your day.

If you are looking for more ways to make walking creative and exciting, I highly suggest doing a scavenger hunt. A scavenger hunt doesn't have to be complicated; you can simply make a quick list on your cellphone. See if you can find things like shaped clouds, rocks, specific-colored flowers, type of wildlife, trees or sources of water.
Do you have any parks, trails, or lakes in your hometown? Get off the couch and awaken all your senses by taking a nature walk today.
