Veterans Day makes me think about the people who served before me, especially my grandfather. As an active-duty Navy Sailor, I understand how much preparation goes into being ready when others are counting on you. I also recognize the sacrifices that service asks of veterans and their families. Honoring them means taking time to appreciate what they gave and thinking about how I can carry their example into my own life.
My grandfather was a proud military veteran, and two lessons from his example have stayed with me: consistency and selflessness. He showed me that character comes through in how you live. I carry that with me in the Navy and at home as a husband and father. Following through on responsibilities, even when nobody is watching, is one way I try to live those values.
The military has reinforced that lesson every day. Preparation starts well before the moment you need it. During my training to become a rescue swimmer, I learned how much I depended on the work I had already put in. Repeating the fundamentals built confidence when things became difficult. That experience still shapes the way I approach challenges. I prepare for what I can and work through the next step when plans change.
Today, discipline often looks like a routine I can stick with. It means making time to train, paying attention to what I eat, and being ready for the responsibilities ahead. Some days go according to plan, and others require adjustments. Resilience means making those adjustments and returning to the habits that help me take care of myself and the people who depend on me.
Nutrition is part of that preparation, which is where OIKOS and Silk fit into my routine.
With military duties and a family to care for, I appreciate options that are convenient enough for a busy day. Having simple, nutritious choices on hand makes it easier to stay consistent, whether I’m starting my morning, heading into a workout, or balancing everything else the day brings. Planning ahead helps me stay on track when things get busy. For me, taking care of my body is part of being prepared to do my job and having the energy to be present with my family.
That’s where the Protein Dream Team comes in. From morning to evening, my Protein Dream Team helps me get the protein and nutrients I need throughout the day:
- NEW SILK® Protein Shake: Delicious Taste | 30g Complete Plant Protein | 5g Fiber | Low Sugar / No Artificial Sweeteners
- OIKOS Pro® Yogurt: 23g protein | 0g added sugar | B Vitamins
- OIKOS® Protein Shake: 30g complete protein | 5g prebiotic fiber | 1g sugar

The mission today is to put those lessons into practice. My grandfather’s example reminds me to be consistent in what I do and generous in how I show up for others. My Navy experience reminds me that readiness takes work. At home, I have the opportunity to pass those lessons to my children through the way I live, just as his example continues to influence me.
This Veterans Day, I’m grateful for my grandfather and for the veterans who have helped shape the country we serve. I want that gratitude to show in my actions throughout the year. For me, honoring their service means following through, caring for the people around me, and doing my part with the same sense of responsibility they showed.
