Game Day With My Dog: World Cup Soccer Fun and Beggin’ Treats

Soccer fever is here! One of the biggest events of the year. Naturally, when World Cup fever started creeping in, I did what any reasonable fan would do: I bought a soccer ball, put together a game day outfit, grabbed a bag of Purina Beggin’ treats, and got my dog, Zero, his very own USA jersey. If we’re going to cheer, we’re going to cheer as a family, and yes, Zero is now convinced he has been officially called up to the national team. The best part is Zero and I actually got to go to a FIFA WORLD CUP Game Match here in Los Angeles last month!

The best part about game day when watching with a dog is that they bring the perfect energy. They know there is excitement, snacks, and maybe a ball involved. Which Zero is ever so slightly OBSESSED with balls. Therefore, that might just make them the purest fans in the room.

I found out recently that this year, Beggin’ is bringing even more fun to soccer season as the Official Dog Treat of U.S. Soccer, which feels extremely appropriate because dogs already treat every backyard, hallway, and living room like a field. Zero may not understand the rules of soccer, but he fully understands running dramatically toward a ball and celebrating like he just won the whole thing.

Our game day setup is simple and easy for when we are at watch parties:

  • USA jersey for Zero.
  • World Cup outfit for me.
  • Soccer ball for “training.”
  • Beggin’ treats for the real MVP, which of course is Zero.

P.S. By “training,” I mean I kicked the ball once, Zero chased it, and then left the ball alone and immediately came back looking for payment. Fair and very professional.

Beggin’ treats are the kind of snack that instantly turns your dog into your most enthusiastic teammate. Zero heard the bag and suddenly had elite focus, world-class hustle, and the confidence of a striker in extra time. Was he playing soccer? Absolutely not, but he will always join anyone on field to chase around a ball being kicked. Was he giving full game day energy? Oh...100%, and that’s what makes this so fun!

The World Cup is about more than just what happens on the field. It’s about getting dressed up, gathering your people, cheering too loudly, making memories, and including the pets who are already sitting right there wondering why everyone is screaming at the TV.

This soccer season, Zero and I are officially ready. Now, all we need is a win...or at least a good excuse to yell “GOOOOAL!” in the living room while my dog celebrates with bacon-flavored enthusiasm. Either way, Team Zero is ready for kickoff.
