So, why do so many cats act like water is the worst thing ever? A lot of it is about control. Cats are not fans of surprises. Getting soaked without warning can leave them stressed, vulnerable, and just overall offended. Wet fur also takes forever to dry and can feel heavy or uncomfortable. So it’s not always about the water itself, it’s about the drama that comes with it.

Here’s where it gets real for us military families, whether you’re PCSing, on drill weekends, or just juggling long days and changing routines, keeping your cat hydrated matters., especially in hot climates or when their routine gets a little thrown off. 

If your cat treats their water bowl like it’s beneath them, try switching things up. A pet fountain with gently running water can be a total game-changer. The movement and sound mimic a stream, which can be more natural and interesting for them. Also, while most cats don’t need full baths, a quick wipe-down or sponge bath now and then can help with grooming, no tub tantrums required. 

At the end of the day, cats don’t hate water. They just have strong, very specific opinions, kind of like most of us navigating military life. Give them a little choice, a little comfort, and a lot of patience, and you might just uncover their inner water baby.
