Whiskey Tango Foxtrot – Learning the Lingo Series: Don’t Panic with the Paperwork!
Paperwork! So…Much…Paperwork! Throughout your military career (and beyond, honestly), you are going to encounter a LOT of DoD Forms and other types of paperwork in most military things…housing, medical, career, education, and so much more! It can get overwhelming to understand it all whether actual paper or virtual versions of it! We’ve got your six, so you can be prepared and ready to go when these papers pop up!!!
Paperwork 101:
- DBN – DoD Benefits Number – 11-digit number on back of DoD ID card that is proof of TRICARE eligibility, coverage, and assists with claims
- DEERS – Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System – A database of military families and others entitled to receive TRICARE and other benefits.
- DOB – Date of Birth
- DoD ID – Dept. of Defense Identification Card
- DoD ID Number – 10-digit number as a unique identifier for DoD systems, services, and benefits
- DOR – Date of Rank – the date on which an individual was officially promoted to a specific grade.
- DOS – Date of Separation – the date you separate from the military
- ETS – Expiration of Term of Service
- Last 4 – The last four numbers of a person’s Social Security number
- usually the member’s SSN
- Medical Treatment Facility Coding
- 20 – Member Code for Medical
- 30 – Spouse Code for Medical
- may vary if divorced & remarried
- 01 – Child Dependent Code for Medical
- first child, and numbers continue in order of birth
- SSN/SSAN – Social Security Number
