Getting Back Outside: Safe Spring Walks and Adventures for Dogs
Posted on February 9, 2026 by Lasonja
The long and cold winter days have ended, and you and your pet can finally get back outside to enjoy the warm air. Going for a walk is a great way to get exercise and a fantastic bonding experience as well. All the new scents in the air will make your dog curious so be sure to check out your surroundings to keep you both safe.
Your neighborhood, local parks and hiking trails are ideal locations for a walk. You can also check for splash pads in your area that allow pets, since most dogs enjoy water play. Be sure that you and your pet stay hydrated and be careful of muddy areas since springtime can bring lots of rain. Lastly, be mindful of allergens such as pollen, mold spores, dust mites and fleas. Below are some essential items that will make walks easier and safer for you and your pet.
Essential Gear for Springtime Walks:
- Collar: Ensure your dogs collar fits properly
- Leash/Harness: Select a leash that doesn’t pull or choke your dog
- ID Tags: Ensure your address and phone number are up to date
- Collapsible Bowl: Bowls are convenient and essential for hydration
- Poop Bags: Always carry bags for easy cleanup
- Flashlight: Flashlights are great for early morning or nighttime walks
Enjoy the sunshine this spring! Give your dog plenty of time to sniff and explore and feel free to vary your routes to shake things up.
