Posted on February 12, 2026 by Lasonja
If you are looking for a city that has tons of southern charm, then put Savannah, Georgia at the top of your bucket list! Savannah has so much history and character you’ll want to visit again and again. Speaking of visiting, if you are a fan of St. Patrick’s Day, then you must take a trip down by the river.
Did you know that Savannah often ranks third as one of the best cities to celebrate this holiday? They offer a large parade, Irish Pubs, and festivities that are held over multiple days drawing in half a million visitors annually. There’s no doubt you’ll meet new friends, eat good food, and have a spectacular time. Be sure to add all of these ideas to your to-do list when you visit!
Things to Do:
- River Street: I absolutely love the vibes on River Street. The cobblestone streets are so cool. The restaurants, shops, and the views of the passing cargo ships always amaze me. If you are looking for an even greater view, check out one of the many rooftop bars/restaurants. No trip to River Street is complete without a visit to River Street Sweets and Wet Willie’s to satisfy your cravings. End your day floating down the river on the Georgia Queen.
- Parks: There is no shortage of beautiful parks in the city! However, your trip won’t be complete unless you head over to Forsyth Park and view the city’s most famous fountain. The fountain water is even dyed green for St. Patrick’s Day.
- Downtown/Squares: Savannah is widely known for a lot of movies that have been filmed in the historic squares of the downtown area. One of the most famous scenes is from the movie Forrest Gump. The famous line “Life is like a box of chocolates” was filmed on one of the park benches. Fun fact: there are 23 squares total.
- Beach: Tybee Island is such a great area for families and kids. The calm beach is always a great hangout, and they offer some of the best fresh seafood you can find. One popular spot on the island is The Crab Shack. If you visit during the winter months, I highly suggest you check out ice skating on the pier, a cool addition that started last year.
Savannah is a city that you can enjoy year-round, but there’s something about St. Patrick’s Day that’s super special. Oh, if you do visit at that time be sure to say “St. Paddy’s Day” a term used by locals and visitors. Paddy is common for Patrick while Patty refers to Patricia.
