Tricare Dental Program (TDP)
Posted on January 22, 2025 by Charlie Marlow
The TRICARE Dental Program (TDP) is a voluntary dental insurance plan offered to active-duty, National Guard, and Reserve members, retirees, survivors, and their families to obtain dental care. Dental care IS NOT included in your TRICARE medical, so you’ll want to investigate the benefits of TDP and how it can benefit your family.
TDP offers comprehensive dental services including preventive care (cleanings, exams, and X-rays), basic services (fillings, extractions, and root canals), and major services (crowns, dentures, and orthodontics). Beneficiaries can choose from a network of participating dentists or seek care from non-network providers. However, out-of-pocket costs may be higher for non-network services.
While most Active Duty, Reserve, and Guard members obtain dental care at a military dental facility, members in CONUS living and working more than 50 miles away from a military dental facility may also enroll. Members OCONUS may enroll if also enrolled in TRICARE Prime Remote Overseas. Family members may enroll as an individual or in a family program. Monthly premiums depend on the sponsor’s military status and type of enrollment and currently range from $12.10 to $108.89 and may be paid by allotment, EFT, or by credit/debit card.
Coverage is portable, meaning that you can keep your coverage when you change duty stations.
