Books On The Ground: Cinema Spotlights
Posted on August 2, 2025 by Cassi Anderson
There is nothing that I enjoy more than a good book. When that book actually has a chance to come to life in film, it can go a lot of ways! Each one of these announcements left me feeling really excited, because some of these books are actual favorites of mine. Although I read them all several years ago, I can attest that these have all stuck with me in the best way possible! Most of these allegedly release in the next 6-12 months, so that should give you plenty of time to knock them out on your TBR list!
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
- Streaming on Netflix – TBD
- When Tova Sullivan’s husband dies, she began working the night shift at the aquarium. Keeping busy has always been Tova’s way of coping. Tova is not new to grief, as she is still grieving the loss of her son, Erik, who vanished on a boat thirty years ago. It is at the aquarium that Tova and Marcellus, a giant pacific octopus, develop an unlikely friendship. It is this friendship that leads to Marcellus becoming quite the detective to help Tova figure out what happened to her son. This story shows how magical unlikely friendships can be! I devoured this book a few years ago and highly recommend the audio version. I can’t wait to stream this on Netflix!
- People We Meet On Vacation by Emily Henry
- Expected in Theaters 2025
- Poppy and Alex have nothing in common, but that doesn’t stop them from being best friends! Every summer, for the last decade, they have taken a trip together, but that all was changed when their friendship was seemingly ruined 2 years ago. Poppy realizes how unhappy she is without Alex in her life, and she decides to lay it all on the line to convince him to go on one last trip. She has a week to fix their friendship. What could possibly go wrong in this friends to lovers story!?!
- Verity by Colleen Hoover
- May 15th, 2026 in Theaters
- I couldn’t stop reading this book almost 4 years ago, but this is one of those that really sticks with you. Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of utter failure when she gets the job of a lifetime. She’s hired by Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, to finish a book that Verity is unable to finish due to her injury. When Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, she is shocked to discover an autobiography. The manuscript is filled with chilling admissions and Lowen is torn whether to reveal them to Jeremy as her feelings for him grow. Although Jeremy is a devoted husband, the truths in this book may be enough to rip him away from Verity. This book is filled with twists and turns and it will leave you wondering. I have really high hopes for the film that will be in theaters next year!
- Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
- TBD
- This book was what started my love of Taylor Jenkins Reid, and she’s yet to let me down with any of her books! Elderly Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to spill all the tea on her scandalous Hollywood life. Evelyn chooses a no-named magazine reporter, Monique Grant, to help her pull this off. No one is more shocked by this selection than Monique herself. Why her, but also why not? Monique’s life is in shambles. Her husband just left and her professional life is at an apparent standstill. Monique is determined to not let this opportunity go to waste and dives right in. Evelyn recounts her life from 1950 to her decision to leave the limelight in 1980 and recounts her seven husbands along the way. As the story unfolds, Evelyn and Monique develop an unlikely friendship, but it isn’t long until Monique realizes that their lives may intersect more than she may know.
- The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
- TBD in 2025
- Lo Blacklock, a travel journalist, was just given an opportunity of a lifetime! She is given the chance to enjoy a week on a luxury cruise. As she begins her exclusive voyage on the Aurora, she experiences beautiful weather and enjoys all the elegant guests. However, as the week progresses she experiences a nightmare. Lo sees a woman being thrown overboard. However, this makes no sense because all passengers are accounted for. The voyage continues as if nothing has happened despite Lo’s insistence that something is VERY wrong!
