48 Hours in The Queen City: Charlotte, NC

My family ventured out to Charlotte, NC and I must say it did not disappoint. Charlotte is nicknamed the “Queen City,” because it was named in honor of Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. She was the wife of King George III of Great Britain. While we initially set out to visit Carowinds, we took in as many sights as we could on our two-day trip. The city has so much beautiful art, amazing food and activities for all ages.

Our hotel was located downtown and surprisingly as we arrived, we found an alley full of street art. The artwork was so beautifully done, and murals can be found all over the city. We ate so much delicious food, however, one of my favorite meals was an order of Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes at Snooze Eatery.

The trip to Carowinds was so much fun as well. They offered military discounted tickets so we took advantage and rode all the roller coasters in the park. I think the next time we return we will definitely check out the Carolina Harbors Waterpark.

Charlotte offers lots of family activities like Escapology and we had a blast at Beat the Bomb and Top Golf. I highly recommend Top Golf during the evening as the holes glow in the dark which makes the experience even cooler.

We finished off our trip with a visit to the SouthPark Mall, which included several high-end fashion boutiques and before departing we took a ride to see Metalmorphosis. Metalmorphosis is a 14-ton metal sculpture in the shape of a giant mirrored head that rotates 360 degrees.

Charlotte is definitely one of my new favorite destinations. I highly recommend it if you live or plan to visit the Southeast. Don’t forget to always check your installations travel office for discounted ticket prices.
