From Service to Strength: How OIKOS Keeps Me Mission Ready

As an Active Duty Navy Sailor, each year Veterans Day serves as a reminder to stay mission-ready. After 17 years of service to our great Nation, I enjoy showing young volunteers what it means to keep both the body and mind ready to defend our freedoms. Grueling, but productive and symbolic, the Armistice WOD is an incredible opportunity to show respect for those who came before me and to motivate those who will continue to defend.

Eleven rounds of eleven repetitions of eleven different movements keep the body and mind aware that I am capable of protecting freedom and democracy — even into my 40s. Pushing the body near its limits is one of the most vital skills I learned early in my military career while training to become a Rescue Swimmer, and the Armistice WOD is an awesome way to make the uncomfortable become comfortable. When you feel like you cannot complete it, turn up the music and think about the sacrifices of all those who came before us — and dive into that motivation.

I like to get past the first half before taking a break. After the sixth set, it’s time to replenish nutrients — and what better way to get the second half going than with an OIKOS Protein Shake? I always have my cooler on hand to get that refreshing, smooth deliciousness into my system to power through the second half of the WOD.

With 30 grams of protein, 5 grams of prebiotics, and only 1 gram of sugar, this is a solution for the most motivated athletes and warriors. Offered in chocolate, vanilla, and caramel, each option is equally delicious and nutrient-dense to satisfy the body’s needs.

With this WOD complete, you stand proudly, knowing that the next few days may be a little rough — but you’re stronger, faster, and better for it. It’s an honor to feel the pain that creates the gains, and to remember that Veterans Day gives us an annual reminder of the sacrifices made to protect the freedoms we may take for granted throughout the year. Nothing great is given — it’s earned.
