A Nerdy Girl’s Guide to Valentine’s Day
I’m an outside the box kind of gal. And when it comes to the big love day, ahem…Valentine’s Day, I definitely step outside the norm for dates. I’ll be honest here, I’m a Nerdy girl with a Capital N. So typical Valentine’s dates seems boring and pretty repetitive. So if you are looking to change up the routine and try something new, I’m here to offer my geek expertise on all the wonderfully nerdy date options for the big V day.
The best way to enjoy a nerdy valentines date is to share it with an equally nerdy date. My beau and I love all things Sci-Fi, horror movies, card games, video games, comics, you name it. So step one is to find out what your significant other loves that is nerdy and new. And even if they don’t have a nerdy bone in their body, there are so many great quirky and fun date ideas to excite even the most average date.
So there are two types of nerdy dates nights, those that cost money and those for the frugal dater. For the sake of saving money while still being awesome, I’ll start first with our frugally fun ideas. Nothing is more fun to a film fanatic than a long night of movie marathons snuggled next to their favorite person. For those of us Horror Movie buffs out there nothing spells romance like a good old fashion slasher film. So pop the corn, grab the comfiest blanket in sight, and snuggle up for a night of fearful fun. Here are some classic horror movies, perfectly fearful, and sure to get you plenty of warm embraces. If movies aren’t your thing and you are wanting something more adventurous, try something that challenges you. For me personally, that challenge is the extremely exposed and very self-conscious activity called Karaoke at home. I mean what can say love better than singing it to your beau. Or hey a duet can always bring you together Think Grease, June Carter and Johnny Cash, Sonny and Cher. It’s even better if you are both on the same singing level. No reason to outshine the other and honestly the most fun times are the ones you can have while laughing together, which would definitely be the case with me singing any Karaoke.
If you are an 80’s baby and have a touch of nerd in your blood, you can agree that nothing is better than a night of old school video games. So bust out your Atari and grab your Nintendo NES Classic for a night full of poor graphics and high quality fun. Start a quest with your honey while fighting off Grecian monsters and noshing on Ambrosia with Kid Icarus on the NES. Or maybe competition is your thing, challenge your significant other with a to the death battle via Mortal Kombat. Just remember if you are a video gaming gal, do your best to let your guy win, at least once J.
If you are not looking for a frugal date night and don’t mind spending some cash on nerdy fun, you have to check out these other Super fun ideas. I love all things Super Hero. I mean who doesn’t love someone who saves the world, rescues the girl, all while wearing the most awesome outfits. Superhero’s are absolutely synonymous with comic books or more so comic books are what created superheroes. That being said, nothing is more fun than a good old fashion make your own Comic Con Convention. Step up your Comic Con date with a little Cosplay. What really rocks the valentine boat is dressing up as your favorite super hero or super villain couple. Think Clark Kent and Lois Lane, Harley Quinn and Joker, Peter Parker and Mary Jane, I could keep going but you get the point.
My finally and most fabulous Valentines Date is that which you can share with others, a themed zoom party. Pick your favorite show, comic book, era, whatever you like. I personally love parties where you dress up. So send some RSVP’s, grab your favorite costume, and spend an evening with your sweetheart and all of your close friends. Party plan it out together, make decorations together, and hey if you both have a chef bone in your body, cook up the food together. Everything is better together but it’s even better when you and your beau are dressed up as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask.
So whether you are frugal and fun or costly and comic bound, enjoy your V day with your nerdy love. Sometimes the best date nights are the simple ones where you can enjoy the same things together. Often times the ones we fall in love with the most are the ones we can enjoy the most with. So I don’t know about you but I will be spending my Valentine’s day sifting through Sci-Fi movies on Netflix’s, probably enjoying my favorite Pepperidge Farm Cookies (Brussels if you were interested in knowing), and waiting to cuddle up next to my beau.
